How To Host a Full Moon Party

a7529693-af38-4843-939d-c8a9d94b169e

…By hosting a Full Moon Party!

The energy of the new moon brings about a perfect time to energize your crystals, set new intentions, and cast away anything that no longer serves you. Full moons are symbolic of turning points, manifestations + closure.

During a Full Moon, the Moon is on the exact opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, bringing us a brightly lit spectacle. People used to plant, hunt, fish and even move by the seasons and cycles of the moon.

Living by the natural cycles of the universe and can keep you grounded and in a flow of abundance. Here are some simple steps to throwing your own Full Moon party:

1. Pick your venue:
Are you hosting the party in your home or outside? Lanterns, fairy lights, sparkly tinsel and starry decorations add moon-vibes to your indoor space. Drape your space in silver + white accents to bring light to outdoor settings.
Tealight candles or a burning fireside will add a soft glow until the moonlight shines upon your party.

2. Recruit your Full Moon crew:
Rally together friends + family who motivate you, spark your soul and bring awareness. Invite those who may not be as spiritually advanced, too. You might be surprised and impressed by their Full Moon manifestations.

3. Gather supplies:
Make sure you have everything you need for you + your guests to feel comfortable. Grab some note pads and pens for guests to manifest their intentions – or release baggage – by writing it down. After writing your intentions down, go around your circle of friends and share. Set up crystal grids with gemstones to direct cosmic energy towards a certain goal.
Cleanse your gemstones by placing them outside in the moonlight, or burn candles + smudge sticks to symbolize something you’re letting go of. Tarot cards are also a fun, spiritual activity you might wish to include.

4. Set the mood:
Cushions, blankets, incense burning, fire crackling. Play some soft, inspiring music and snack on fresh, detoxifying foods. Take your tribe on a stroll to watch the moon (or howl away!)

5. Place your written intentions somewhere sacred:

Perhaps it’s under your pillow, or placed neatly within a spiritual crystal altar. By writing your intentions down and verbally sharing them with friends, you hold yourself accountable to achieve them. The best part of this? It’s proven you’re actually more likely to achieve goals set this way. Take the time until the next New Moon or Full Moon to reflect upon how far you’ve come and what needs work.

We’ve put together the perfect kit for cleansing your gemstones! Check out the Full Moon Party Activation Kit

5 Ways to Connect to the Present Moment

TD_150331_1055 (2)Today, we’re practicing connecting to the present moment. We’re all constantly on the go; manifesting our futures and creating our visions. Take the time today to simply connect to the present moment. Relax, grab your mala and practice living in the now.

Here are some of our favorite ways to connect to the present moment:

1. Breath
Breath is a great way to connect to the present moment. Simply notice it. Focus on it. Feel your belly move. Follow it. Doing this is also a great way to begin a meditation practice.

2. Scent
Get lost in scent. Scent is very powerful. A familiar scent has the ability to take us back to a blissful memory (such as a vacation or a special occasion). Diffuse a calming essential oil or light your favorite scented candle. Simply relax and let the scent wash over you.

3. Move
Walk, bike, run, surf, yoga; get out there and move your body. Feel the speed. Feel the movement. Feel the balance. How does each moment feel? Do you get lost in the activity? Experience each adjustment to the body.

4. Slow Down
Slow down. Grab your mala and meditate. Engage in the ritual of mindful cooking or cleaning. The act of moving slower deepens one’s consciousness and makes the present moment easier to connect with.

5. Thoughts
We’re often told to let go of our thoughts. Today we want you to experience them. Bring all of your attention to your thoughts. Try to not get distracted. Notice what comes to mind. What kinds of words are you thinking of? What kind of images are you seeing?

The present moment is always here. Embrace it.

5 Ways to be a Bohemian

richelle-hunter-photography-tiny-devotions-photographer-paris-france-preview-45

The Bohemian girl elevates, lifts and loves. She’s radical, independent and fearless.  She knows there is no such thing as imperfection, just originality. Someone who is both inspired and inspiring, she dances through life glowing. She embraces spirituality, radiates positivity and always answers the wild call of adventure.

Here are some of our favorite ways to embrace your boho spirit:

1. Live Simply

Simplify your life! Get rid of clutter and let go of what doesn’t serve you anymore. Get #insanelyintentional. Clear your physical, digital and emotional clutter. Get very clear on your intentions and desires. When you’re able to adopt the mindset of living simply you will become more mindful in all that you do. Eat, breathe and walk with intention.

2. Dream Big
Have the courage to pursue your dreams. Wake up and chase them. Fall in love with the process and the rest will come naturally. Keep manifesting, the universe is working with you on this. Visualization is key. Meditate on it, journal about it, make a vision board or two. You can do this.

3. Be Grateful
Express your gratitude! Gratitude is a powerful tool. It fills your life up with content. It transforms what we have into enough. It allows us to appreciate the people in our lives. Cultivate the habit of gratitude journaling. Write down 10 things you are grateful for every day. Celebrate the tiny miracles.

4. Give Love
To receive love you must give love. Open your heart up to others and let the light in. Inspire others, and strive to learn something from everyone who comes into your life. Love the people in your life unconditionally. Do something to show them how much you appreciate them every single day. Fill your life up with Bohemian currency; love.

5. Laugh Lots
Remember to have fun! Do what makes you happy. Engage in activities that make your soul shine. Call your besties and put on a comedy. Read a funny blog or novel. Do whatever it is you need to do cultivate happiness.

There is Bohemian spirit that dwells within your soul. Set it free and shine!

The Everlasting Pursuit of Maintaining Positivity

Every year when spring starts to roll around, I find myself searching long and hard for a way to escape my winter blues. I love the feeling of being surrounded by warmth and spending the majority of my time outdoors so it’s hard for me to live my life to the fullest during cold months. I hibernate and go into full on winter survival mode. Dreaming of sunshine and reminiscing about those perfect summer days is what gets me through.

So how do you break out of this pattern and start existing again? I personally find it takes a lot of motivation and inspiration for me to break free of this zombie mode my body goes into. This year I decided to push myself in ways I never thought I could and really make up for all the lost months I spent inside stuffing my face with chocolate and waiting for the snow to melt. I’ve created a list of ways that have been working for me to maintain a positive attitude and get inspired again. Hopefully they will help some of you dealing with the same annual quest to finding balance in your life again.

1. Find Something You’re Really Interested In
Look for an activity you have always wanted to pursue in your spare time or find a club to join. I have always wanted to be a runner. I see people running and always think, damn, I wish I could do that. My mind would tell me I could never have the patience to run long distances outside. I could never be motivated enough or have enough energy. This year I was invited into a run club. My first instinct was yikes. Not for me. Then I thought about it again. I looked at who else was invited into said club. A group of 13 really creative girls who were all beginners. We were all in the same boat, starting from the bottom. That in itself made me change my mind. An invitation to something I had always wanted was just handed to me. Running with a pack of girls to push, motivate and inspire each other along the way. A few weeks in and I can’t believe what I am pushing myself to do. Being surrounded by other people who have the same mindset as yourself and who are working toward the same goal is so incredibly inspiring. I thank the universe for this every time I run. What a gift! Finding something you’re passionate about and surrounding yourself with people who share the same compelling emotion as you towards it is the best feeling.

2. Change Up Your Work Out Routine
I recently got a membership with Class Pass, which is essentially a universal pass to a majority of fitness studios throughout the city. This pass is a real work out game changer! It gives you so many options for different styles of work outs that you could never get bored. It’s also a good way to get you to different parts of the city you don’t usually go to or haven’t been to. I find that when I have a monthly gym membership I fall off track so easily due to boredom. I also find I hit a plateau where my body just looks the same. Definitely look for something like this in your city because it truly does make working out fun again.

3. Give Meditation a Try
I’m sure most people have seen mediation recommended in so many articles, but it really does make a difference. Taking 10 to 20 minutes of your time each day to shut off your brain and focus on gratitude is life changing. There are endless amounts of meditation series online to download and stream that you can try out. My personal fav would have to be the Oprah and Deepak Meditation Series. Every so often they have a free 21 day meditation program which I absolutely love. Getting in the habit of meditating each morning and or evening can really set you up for a day filled with positive vibes.

4. Hit The Market
This one is only applicable in summer for some people such as myself, but try and ditch your commercial grocery stores and hit up some local farmers markets. I’ve been doing this for the past couple years now and I find on market days I always feel so happy and inspired. Being around local people and food is really uplifting! It gives me something to look forward to each week. It feels good to support local farmers who you know use the profits towards growing real food rather then throwing away hundreds of dollars a month to a corporation who really couldn’t care less about the quality of food being sold to you.

5. Hangouts Are Key
Make a solid effort to set one day a week aside that is free of errands and work or what have you, to schedule in a hang sesh with your friends. Friends are inspiring, supportive, motivating, loving and many other wonderful things beyond great company. Doing this forces you to get out of the house and step away from your busy life to just hang out and feel free. This gives you another thing to look forward to and helps in maintaining positive spirits and good vibes.

Now that the weather is finally tolerable and the cloud of negativity that has stalked me ever so closely throughout the winter has finally begun to disappear, I can leave my den and emerge back into reality. It’s time to exist again and push each other to be the best version of ourselves that we can be!

8 Ways to Start Loving Yourself TODAY

_q3agBem04Ae1YewWttNb48Qy1gH11qk0bqJVAkO-poI remember as kids, my sister and I used to wake up to love notes on our bathroom mirror.    My mom would use dry erase markers and write us messages to help us start our days in good spirits. Sometimes it was fancy for a holiday or just simply “Good morning, I love you”.   Over the years, I have kept this tradition in my own daily life to set reminders for the things I am currently working on.   Last year, I was working on “Self Love”.

Self Love is becoming more popular term these days with the growth of the health and wellness industry.   It is so vital and important to take care of yourself and to love yourself so you can authentically share your love with others.   It’s quite magnetic and I believe it is the root of all health.  The more love you can embody, the more you can share your love with others.  One very important note about the gift of love is being able to receive love.  Many of us know how to give it away, but then we resist allowing it to come in.  By falling in love with your self you can start to feel the love within, then sharing and receiving becomes part of the natural ebb and flow.

Here’s are 8 of my many favorite ways to start loving yourself more today!

1. Write yourself love notes!
Write yourself love notes every day.  Notes can be written on your bathroom mirror or even on sticky pads placed around your workplace, car or home.  I used to look in the mirror in the morning and hear the voice of my inner critic, “you’re too pale, you’re not trim enough, bad hair today, and on and on and on.”   Now I can look in the mirror and hear “you look beautiful today”.   The note completely shifted my perspective and attitude towards my self, making me much brighter and confident throughout the day.   This tool can help you begin to catch your inner critic and shift gears towards a more positive, loving self-image.

2. Pick a mantra
Last year, my mantra was simply “I am self love.   The more I told myself “I am self love” the more love I began to radiate from within.  Love is eternal and beautiful in nature.  We all have it.   Not just some.   So pick your mantra and start working with it.  Repeat it 3, 10, 50 times a day until it really starts to sink into your psyche.

3. Bathroom Rituals
Pick one that works for you.  For me, I love a nice, long bubble bath.   Nothing says rest and restore like 30 minutes soaking in a tub full of my favorite salts and essential oils.   If you do not have a bathtub, then perhaps you use the shower as a way to cleanse and refresh.  Or find your favorite moisturizer to lather all over your body.  I recommend saying your mantra as you dry off or apply your moisturizer.

4. Get dressed up!
Put something on right now that makes you feel sexy, cute, confident, and essentially you.  Don’t go for the worn out black t-shirt you always wear (that was the old me!) instead try on something new, even if it is just simply adding a mala or a scarf to your ensemble.  Wear something that dresses you up in your confident self.  Allow it to be comfortable and flowing so you feel free the whole day and observe as your body language starts to change.

5. Make yourself a meal
Skip the drive through and head to the grocery store.  Pick up all of your favorite items and spend some time making a meal that sounds delicious to you.  I would even encourage experimenting with your own recipe rather than looking one up online.  Once you have gathered all of your favorite produce, make sure you spend time washing and cleaning the food.  This cleaning process is not only good to keep it healthy and fresh, but you can get your loving hands all over it.  So when your body goes to digest, it knows that it was prepared with love.  It will help shift your relationship towards food how your body processes the energy.

6. Take a Yoga Class
Yoga is a great way to take some time for introspection.  In Yoga, we use the breath as a tool to get back in touch with your body and quiet the chatter of the mind.  Yoga helps to center, balance, and calm the nervous system. If you have a little more energy, then perhaps get a little cardio exercise.  Physical activity can help decrease stress and increase the number of endorphins in the body.  Endorphins help to alleviate the feeling of pain while stimulating the feeling of joy.  This will not only reinvigorate your mind but also give you a sense of empowerment to take on your day with strength and ease.

7. Connect with nature
I have found that even for 5 minutes, that feeling the rays of sunshine over my face really replenish my soul.  Going outside for a hike or taking a walk on the beach can be just as rejuvenating as a 2-hour nap in the middle of the day.   Practice a little bit of gratitude as you walk around the neighborhood and recognize that there is so much beauty in the world.   Place your hand on a tree or roll around in the grass.  Reconnect with your inner child and play…skip, run, jump, explore.   Remember those days of pure joy running around with your friends?  Come back to that feeling and spend some quality time with Mother Nature.

8. Sleep
Last but not least, and perhaps the best. . . Your body needs rest!   A restless body is usually not a happy body (at least not this body!).   If you find yourself constantly sleep deprived it cannot only affect your mood but also your metabolism and energy levels.  I suggest 7-8 hours per night.   It may seem like a lot to the working professional, but your body with thank you for it.  You will feel more alive and empowered to take on the day, and you may skip on that afternoon crash when you feel tempted to take a nap or sneak in another coffee.  Getting the proper amount of sleep is essential, for you and all those around you!   Ladies this is especially important for us as we lack the amount on testosterone that men have to power through the exhaustion.  Get your rest and fill up your tanks for the next day.

Enjoy every moment.  Be patient with the process.  As I mentioned in the beginning, self-love and personal care is not something that happens overnight.  For many of us with tainted backgrounds in judgmental environments, we need to rewire the brain to come from love rather than from fear.  Usually the root of negative conversations comes from this idea that you are “not enough”.  And I am here to reassure you that you are enough.  You have endless, boundless amounts of untapped loved stored right in your body.   Go digging and start to uncover some of that gold lying within!

The Wellness Wonderland: My Top 5 Tips on How to Get Well and Stay There

Ilarge wanted a community of like minded people where I could be my authentic, radically real self, so I made one. This beautiful place in now more than just my corner of the internet. It has become my home. I’ve come to realize that The WellnessWonderland is more than just a blog, rather it is a state of mind where we are vibing high and life is supporting you. This is a place any of us can access anytime and here are my top five tips for dwelling there.

1) Nourish Your Body & Mind: You can’t give what you don’t already have, meaning you can’t take care of your family and friends, much less the world, if you’re not taking care of yourself. So the first step on the road to Wellness Wonderland has to be taking care of your own body. Nourishing it with self-care, healthy relationships, whole foods, enough sleep and watching your stress levels. Incorporating your own version of a meditation practice is crucial. Meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting on a pillow in silence. Meditation is merely mindfulness and can be done by being fully present while you’re at spinning class, grocery shopping, driving or chopping vegetables. Meditation doesn’t have to look a certain way. It can be as easy as a single pointed focus and becoming aware of your breath. Here’s a video I did on how to get started with meditation.

2) Be Fearlessly Authentic: Being your true self is crucial to living in your Wellness Wonderland state. When you’re not being real and you are being what society dictates you should be to get people to like you, you will feel drained. It is refreshing to be exactly who you are and trust that the people who are meant to be in your life will be drawn to the authentic energy you’re giving off and those who aren’t will fall away naturally.

3) Put Yourself in Someone Else’s Shoes: When someone tests your patience or frustrates you, recognize their perspective and realize their actions are a direct reaction to their unique circumstances that day. Meaning if someone cut you in line or overcharged you, instead of flying off the handle, return to your breath and handle the situation with the kindness you wish for when you’re having a bad day. You never know their situation and being mean back will only create more negativity. Don’t allow it to take you out of your Wellness Wonderland. Staying in your Wellness Wonderland will inspire them to get back to theirs. Like a boomerang, the more kindness you give, the more comes right back to you.

Humans are social creatures hard-wired to help each other. Instead of waiting for someone to need or ask for your help, actively seek ways you can be of service in your daily life. Whether it’s holding the door for a stranger or calling your grandmother, a random act of kindness (no matter how small) can drastically change a situation for who you help and also improve your mood. I love the quote, “When you’re feeling helpless, help someone.”

4) Get Out of Your Comfort Zone: Anything significantly positive that has happened in my life happened outside of my comfort zone. Playing small is comfortable, easy, and feels good, however the magic only happens when you step out. No one ever feels like changing the world and doing something new, however if you can forces yourself to try you’ll be blown away by what you can achieve. Challenging yourself everyday is a requirement of living in your Wellness Wonderland. This looks different for everyone. It could be putting yourself out there and meeting people or starting a blog or trying a new exercise routine. Whatever it is, it won’t feel great to begin but just like jumping into a cold pool the fear of jumping takes more energy than actually doing it and once you do you’re cold of a second and then you get used to it.

5) Know How To Return When You Step Out of Wonderland: Life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, the truth is it rains and sometimes it pours. Ups and downs are a beautiful part of life, so you’re bound to get tossed out of your Wellness Wonderland state here and there and that’s okay. True happiness  isn’t about never leaving WWonderland, rather it is knowing how to return quickly once you do. It’s common to give up when something goes wrong and spiral out of control into complete breakdown when just one thing goes wrong. For instance, you eat something you didn’t want to eat and that gives you the open door to stand in front of the fridge and eat until you feel sick and then you feel so guilty and bad about that that you do the same thing in an hour and so on. What truly having a Wellness Wonderland state of mind allows you to do is after eating that first thing you didn’t want to, coming to awareness and changing the pattern by instantly forgiving yourself. Instead of beating yourself up which perpetuates the situation, simply say to yourself, “Oh you just did your old thing again, that’s okay now you can choose to do something different.” By forgiving yourself immediately, you allow change to happen immediately not when you’ve taking yourself so far out of WWonderland that it’s much harder to return.

The Boho Girl’s Guide to Fail-Safe Meditation

tumblr_n11nqjet3D1qb7dwvo1_500This world is growing faster and more furious every minute. With all that we have on the agenda these days, it can become a huge headache to relax. Our ability to stay in the present gets jumbled up in technology mania; messages from all over the globe flashing across computer screens, cell phones, and television sets at a million miles a minute. What’s a Boho gal or guy to do when it’s time to zone in and focus up on some serious “me” time?

For centuries, people have used meditation as a way of zeroing-in on themselves, their desires, and the goals that they wish to achieve. It’s a spiritual practice used to elevate the understanding of our inner nature as well as a practice to establish a connection to the divine. It’s been clinically proven that meditation not only calms the body and mind, but also works to inspire creativity, improve the immune system, and even help to boost our relationships with everyone (and everything) around us.

I could list the benefits for days, but how do you get down to the crunch when there is so much that is seemingly “crunching” you? Meditation is not supposed to be difficult. By all spiritual accounts, it’s one of the simplest practices, which immediately makes it the most difficult. And it’s totally important!

To get you in the “OM” mode, here are some tried and true, bohemian certified ways to make your meditation practice as simple and consistent as possible:

1. Get comfortable. In a lot of traditions, practioners remain in a seated position, legs crossed, hands upon the knees, or in the lap. However, we’re in the new age, so as long as you are comfortable, you will find that it will be easier to connect with your practice. As such, lying down is perfectly acceptable.

2. Focus on the breath. Start off your practice by simply paying attention to the ebb and flow of your on breath (if you are a yogi, you’re already familiar with this attentiveness to the act of breathing). Notice how the breath fills your lungs, your torso, and your chest, and notice how it leaves your body. Remember, you are not in this to change these sensations. Just notice them and connect with the physical act of the sensation.

3. Get a guide. Some people find guided meditations to be very helpful. A guided meditation will involve specific breath work, or alternatively, some visualizations that will create something of a “meditation story” for your practice. If this is something that you think you will enjoy, do some research. There are several books and websites that will have some incredible guided meditations for any practitioner.

4.  Accept where you’re at. You’re going to get frustrated. Accept this. No one ever achieved anything on this planet without hard work and practice. This is the biggest thing to remember when you are meditating. Be kind to yourself, be patient with yourself, and in time, the flow will come with less effort.

5. Breathe. When in doubt, just go back to the breath. I can guarantee that your mind is going to wander from time to time, and seriously, it’s no big deal. Even the greatest spiritual teachers in our world veer onto the mental fast lane! If your mind is starting to do its own thing, just bring your attention back to the breath. Notice the sensations again. Start counting the time it takes to inhale and exhale, and you’ll be on the right track again.

Once you’ve started your practice, it’s time to add in some consistency. Pick a time of the day when it is easiest for you to take a few minutes and enjoy the process of meditating. Some prefer the morning before they get up, while others like to wait until they are about to go to sleep. Discover what works for you and then commit yourself to doing it! You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

As with all things, practice is key. Enjoy it, live it, and you will reap the benefits of meditation in every aspect of your life. I can guarantee it!

Namaste!
