Click the image at the end of this post to download + print your Intention card with 5 different Sanskrit mantras to manifest your desires with your Howlite Mala Ring.

Once you have decided upon the mantra, grab your Howlite Mala Ring and bring your desires to life.

How to Meditate with a Mala Ring:
Use the 18 dots around your Mala Ring to run your finger over slowly as you repeat your mantra, word or sound to infuse the ring with your intentions. Once you have gone around the ring 6 times you will have reached the auspicious 108.

mala ring is much like a mala bead necklace or stack. These unique rings are not only a fashion statement, but great tool to use in your meditation practice. This ring’s guru stone is moonstone, which is said to bring out the best in people.

On the back of the ring is the sacred geometric engraving of The Flower of Life, symbolic of the connections life weaves through all beings. This piece of jewelry can be worn everywhere. Think of the number of things you come in contact with each day – your energy flows where intention goes.

How to Choose a Mala

How-To-Choose-A-Mala-2

More than just accessories, Mala beads are meditation tools that have been used for thousands of years. They encourage us to pause, breathe and realign with our deepest intentions. They motivate us to invest in moments of self-care and compassion. They’re our spiritual forget-me-nots, and they’re also beautiful. One of the questions we get asked most is “How do I choose a Mala?”. Choosing by intention is a great way to get started, there are other factors you should also consider when choosing a Mala.

Intention

Hold the vision and trust the process. This is the most personal part of the process. What do you want to create in your life? What are you working on? What do you truly desire? What are you struggling with? Ask yourself these questions and see if they guide to what you want to create as your intention. Once you get clear on what you want your intention to be, you will create a clear path. Intentions are all about you + what you want to achieve in your life!

Beauty

Things that you are attracted to are an integral part of your healing process. Whether it be a beautiful landscape, a cute animal or a gorgeous mala; stop and take a moment to observe the things you find beautiful. Develop your own personal aesthetic. Meditate on this and strive to see beauty in everything. Surrounding yourself with beautiful and uplifting things is very powerful. Reflect on the power that beauty has over our attention; when something is so aesthetically pleasing it takes over your consciousness and moves you to a new place.

Color

What is your favourite color, and what colors are you typically drawn to? What colors of clothing do you wear most often? What colour are your favourite foods and scents? Life is full of color, and like other things on your spiritual path it has meaning. You want to choose a mala that you will use and wear often, so it’s important to choose a stone color combination that you are drawn to and can see being a staple in your wardrobe.

Shape

Find a Mala guru stone with a shape you connect with. Some Gurus stones are circular, teardrop, or oval shaped. Others have a raw edge. Ever heard of sacred geometry? The strands of our DNA, the galaxy we spiral within, the air we breathe, and all life forms as we know them emerge out of timeless geometric codes.

How-To-Choose-A-Mala

Energy

Each gemstone that we use in our Malas are believed to emit their own special vibration + healing energy. There are gemstones for every mood, trouble or desire you can imagine. Gemstones are to be worn near the chakras, which are energy centres of the body. Make sure that this energy aligns with your intention! A lot of Malas will assist everyone on some level – see if you can find something that you connect with individually.

Intuition

When in doubt, trust your vibes! Which Mala were you originally drawn to? Which mala do you keep thinking about? Which one jumps off of the page? This is most likely the perfect mala for you! The more you trust your intuition, the stronger it gets. Choosing a mala is a combination of all of these factors – most importantly follow your intuition and follow your heart.

Timing

What’s going on in your life right now? Maybe you’ve just come out of a breakup and could use a reminder of self-love. Maybe you’ve just left your office job to pursue your career as a yoga teacher and you’re seeking the confidence to push forward in the direction of your dreams. There’s a Mala for that! Our Malas are created and named with the combination of properties within each gemstone in mind to best help guide you in your life journey – whatever that might be!

What are Mala Beads?

Mala is the Sanskrit word for garland. While simply being in the presence of these Mala Beads or Malas as they are called for short is powerful, these magical beads are commonly used in the spiritual practice of Japa Meditation. Malas have 108 beads to count while reciting, chanting, or repeating a chosen mantra or intention. They are also deeply devotional and can be used in the repetition of sacred names or words like Om, Om Shanti Shanti Shanti, I am Love, I am Peaceful, etc.

What-Are-Mala-Beads-1

When we select a word or series of words to repeat in the form of a mantra, we’re affirming it to ourselves, allowing its meaning to sink below the surface into our subconscious, helping to shift negative vibes into positive ones. Simply the practice of asking the universe for what you want is the first step to making it into fruition.

Malas can and should be worn by anyone and everyone. They’ve beome a beloved and
intentional statement piece, inspiring their wearers to connect deeply with their inner being. They are known for their unique appearance, vibrational healing properties and ability to serve a daily reminder to live a more intention based life.

Our Malas have 108 beads, made out of Rudraksha seeds, Sandalwood or Rosewood, plus one guru stone made out of a beautiful crystal known to have many healing properties.

The 109th guru stone symbolizes gratitude and our connection to the divine. It is a way to say thank-you to all the yoga teachers, friends, family or guides who have helped us on our path to enlightenment (or at least knowing ourselves more). We also use the Gemstone Guru to set specific intentions and goals.

9 Eco Products for Stylish Yogis

Screen Shot 2014-08-18 at 11.52.26 AMYoga means union, and is a process by which we can become more connected with ourselves, and recognize our interconnectedness and oneness with all beings and the earth. When we realize the effect we have on the environment, and the inherent unity we have with it, we can live more harmoniously with the natural flow of life.

My favorite products have a low impact on the environment, are kind to animals, and are made without exploitation or oppression of humanity. When the products we use and the money we spend are in line with the philosophy of yoga, we come closer to the union we seek. Our choices, our dollars and our words are ways in which we cast a vote towards consciousness or disconnection. When we realize the power that we have to make changes with our choices, we give voice to what matters and to our morals.

1. My Tiny Devotions Daydream Mala: I love connecting with the energies of the earth through what I wear, especially because I live in a city. Crystals, minerals, and stones remind me of the miraculous power of creation. Sandalwood is grounding and reminds me of the support that the earth has to offer. When we meditate and practice yoga, we become more mindful and can utilize our own inner resources and the earth’s resources in ways that will benefit our descendants and show respect for all we have been naturally given. My mala is a constant reminder of that commitment. www.lovetinydevotions.com

41OYrO1KWiL._SL500_AA300_2. Manduka Black Mat Pro: This mat has a lifetime guarantee, so you’ll never need to buy another yoga mat. Manduka is committed to ecology, sustainability and life long support for your yoga practice. They also recently created the world’s first 100% recyclable yoga mat. How awesome is that? www.manduka.com

3. Miakoda Hand Crocheted Cowl: This eco-friendly, vegan, organic company is made in a small factory in NYC by Julia Ahrens.  When it’s cold, I never leave home without my hand crocheted cowl. They’re made with love by my sister who carries out a mission close to both our hearts. www.miakodanewyork.com

4. KiraGrace: KiraGrace is an American conscious yoga clothing company run by an amazing woman CEO named Kira Karmazin. This company celebrates women’s beauty and individuality while supporting the bigger picture– KiraGrace donates 100% of the proceeds of the Warrior T-Back Yoga Tank to Off The Mat Into The World, supporting the community locally and globally and showing commitment to progress and change in the name of unity and justice. www.kiragrace.com

5. North Coast Organics Natural Deodorant in Death by Lavender: The armpits and the skin are vulnerable to absorption of toxins, so I choose products that are natural and non-toxic. North Coast Organics is committed to kindness to animals and the environment, contains only natural and organic ingredients, and are even made on equipment cleaned only with natural products. http://north-coast-organics.com/

IMG_6719_210aa4d2-3cfa-4dcd-a55a-fdbb87ba4aad_large8. Stone & Violet, Crystal Grid Board:  Artist, woodworker, and crystal specialist Lauren Gray visits a lumberyard weekly to salvage wood that is destined for the landfill and creates boards emblazoned with sacred geometrical patterns for use in crystal grid work. Creating grids is a beautiful way to bring ritual and intention into a particular space, ceremony, or practice, and helps me to navigate the highs and lows of life, show my gratitude, or invite energy that I want to cultivate in my life. www.stoneandviolet.com

9. My Zen Home, Dhyana Cushion: I love the support and sustainability the Dhyana Cushion brings to my meditation practice. I can feel comfort and also know that this company’s organic products are easy on the earth. The owners of the company are committed to the practice, and have been seen burning sage to clear the energy before opening their booth at yoga festivals worldwide. www.myzenhome.com

We live in a world of abundance and beauty, and it is a practice of gratitude to enjoy all of the physical creations and manifestations of others’ energy. However, remember when purchasing that it is important to enjoy what you already have. Sometimes, the most ecological choice is what you don’t buy, or choosing not to make a purchase. Try to repurpose, reuse, and recycle old or others’ belongings into something you can save from throwing away. Because there is no “away,” and everything we do impacts this earth. Purchase quality products that use resources responsibly and promote freedom and justice for all, and they will support your own personal growth and last for years to come.

Devotion to the Ocean: How to Rock Mermaid Style on Land

Processed with VSCOcam with k2 presetMorning surf sessions are vital.  Although they don’t leave much time (or energy) for getting ready post-slide, we have Mother Nature to thank for helping us out.  The transition from sea to land isn’t as tough as we think.  Mermaid style is effortless.  It is as simple as cutoffs over a bikini and coconut oil in your hair… minimal or no make-up and gold dainty jewelry.  The little secret to the mermaid muse is… it’s easy.  And we like easy.  Because let’s face it.. we’d rather be surfing.  Here are a few style tips every sea babe should know:

1.  Find jewelry you can wear in and out of the water.  I am constantly in and out of the water and I don’t have time to be taking my jewelry on and off.  Tiny Devotions has an awesome line of feel-good jewelry that literally exude positive energy as soon as you put them on.  I have the Gangster Stack that came with me to Maui.. in the water, sand, and all elements.

It was packaged with a lovely reminder of what each bracelet represented.  This is a bettering stack – The ‘how to” of awesomeness for the strong goddess.  A pretty reminder of how strong you truly are.

  • Faceted Labradorite: The stone of good fortune and new beginnings.  Labradorite also helps with a good aura.  Cultivating a good energy attracts fabulous things.
  • Faceted Pyrite: The stone of luck and fire and protection.  For the fiery spirit who get’s things done.
  • Faceted Hematitle: This is a strength stone and grounding.  In ancient times, Hematite was actually used as a mirror – a vision into oneself.  If you don’t think you’re strong, who will?

2. Coconut Oil is your best friend.  Head on over to your local health food store and pick up a jar of this goodness.  You will use it for EVERYTHING.

tumblr_inline_n9a5r4CD1h1qd5fyb3. Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen.  If you love the ocean as much as I do, you should make sure to give your skin constant TLC.  Protection and post-nourishing skin-care is extremely important.

4.  Effortless beach waves are a forever yes.  Don’t have time to run to the ocean to get your hair all salty?  There is still hope to waking up with those beach locks you love.  Thisthis, and this.  You’ll thank me later.

5.  Always keep a bikini, beach blanket, and sandals in the back of your car. Enough said.

6. Save money on clothes, so you can buy surfboards and pretty fins.  Find awesome statement pieces from your favorite brands, and then stick with the basics.  Boyfriend jeans, vintage washed tee’s, cutoff’s, and bikinis are pretty much what I’ve been living in lately.

7.  Sun-kissed skin can be safe.  Bronzer will give you an extra glow, you won’t have to do much more (this is the one I use and I will never go back to any other brand.. Leaves my skin bright and sun kissed all day long).  My usual beauty routine consists of tamed brows, a dust of bronzer, blush, and a little illuminating powder.

Processed with VSCOcam with k3 preset8. Less is more.  Makeup is used to compliment your beauty, not cover it up.  Use the “less is more” mentality when applying and let your beauty shine through.  It gives you more time to enjoy little things, like your favorite cup of tea in the morning, or one extra wave.

9. Get a good pair of sunnies.  Keep your eyes happy and find a pair of sunglasses you love.  Sunglasses are like a marriage.. you’ll want them forever and feel kind of lost without them.  I literally take mine everywhere.  Everywhere.  I wear them more than I wear shoes.

10. Smile.  It’s good for the soul.

Now get off the computer and go in the ocean, you mermaid.

explore-702x398Heading to Wanderlust Whistler this weekend? You lucky devil. Situated between two of Canada’s most beautiful mountains (Whistler and Blackcomb), Wanderlust Whistler is a yogi’s dream. Fresh mountain air, epic music, amazing yoga instructors, we could gush about it all for hours. But we’ll spare you. Instead we’ve put together a list of must-haves! Much more useful right?

We’ve even got a Wanderlust Mala and Bracelet intentionally crafted by us to embody the spirit of Wanderlust Festival. The ultimate souvenir? We think yes.

2. Bright, Bold, Tights. Black is so basic. This summer it’s all about being bold. That’s why we are obsessed with our Teeki tights. Not only are these bad boys super stylish and comfortable, they’re also made from recycled plastic bottles. Eco chic? Yes please.

3. Summer Scarves. Versatility is your friend at Wanderlust. So are summer scarves. These light weight, bold patterned scarfs don’t just have to be worn around your neck. Bandanas, head wraps, sarongs, the sky’s the limit. Style is all about being creative after all.

4. Your Soul Mat. A yogi’s relationship with their mat is very serious. You sweat together. You savasana together. You balance together. You grow stronger together. Find a yoga mat you really love and bring it with you everywhere. We’re huge fans of Manduka mats. Crafted using simple, enduring, natural and whenever possible, renewable resources, these mats mean business.

5. A Beautiful Journal. A weekend spent meditating, dancing, laughing and yoga-ing up a storm in one of the world’s most breathtaking places, don’t tell us you won’t be inspired. When inspiration hits, be ready. That’s why we recommend bringing a beautiful journal or notebook with you. When your mind’s not busy be blown by Wanderlust Whistler epicness try and take a few minutes to jot your ideas down. You’ll thank us later. Trust.

xx – The Tiny Devotions Team.

Styling Intentions with the Babes at Skinny Fat Girl Diary!

We here at Skinny Fat Girl Diary, are so thrilled to be featured on Bohodaily.com… A place that celebrates green juice, a healthy lifestyle, and agrees that the best way to explore life… is in your yoga pants! We discovered this community of goddesses after falling in love with Tiny Devotions’ scarves; handmade works of art, both stylish and practical. But more than fabric, they inspire us to focus on our intention. The scarf is a colorful reminder during a hectic day, to breathe, enjoy the moment, and reconnect– just what we need at the SFG Diary.

We are three health fanatics living in LA, with crazy work schedules – all while, cooking, yoga-ing and bedazzling for our blog. It’s overwhelming what we strive to accomplish in an hour, day or week… and we know we aren’t alone! That’s why we created a space to find the silver lining along life’s journey. Why cry, when you can bake vegan-inspired carrot cake and laugh together?

Here’s three different ways to style your intentions…

Jackie, the brunette amongst blondes, embraces the bohemian look… it’s sexy, laid-back and looks fabulously effortless.  When I saw their hipster scarf, it was love at first sight!  My first fashion rule is “comfort,” so any way I can jazz up a simple outfit with something stylish… I’m in! The Hipster scarf makes me feel like I can conquer anything, and not to mention look pretty chic while doing it… it even makes my yoga pants look inspired!

Screen Shot 2014-07-24 at 4.34.08 PM

Lauren seems to never stop running… that is until she saw the Prana Del Mar scarf. I’m absolutely obsessed with bright colors this summer. Until recently, I never really embraced my body type and used to hide it behind lots of dark colors. Something shifted after a couple month in hot yoga rooms and I became grateful to be strong. So, I’m embracing my sense of adventure with bright teal jewelry, pinks, cut-offs and my Prana Del Mar scarf in tow.

Screen Shot 2014-07-24 at 4.34.00 PM

Valorie never sleeps. Seriously… this girl is like the energizer bunny– she does it all (until 4 am) and still looks fabulous! Summer is usually hotter than Haiti but thankfully in Los Angeles, summer evenings tend to get pretty chilly– especially close to the water! I’m all about laid-back California style—splashes of color and a white jean are the perfect beach-side combo. This Sanibel scarf is seasonal perfection, glowing with hues of pink and orange… Colors are a reflection of your attitude; I’m staying in the spirit of summer by staying happy and active in bright, light colors!
