More than just accessories, Mala beads are meditation tools that have been used for thousands of years. They encourage us to pause, breathe and realign with our deepest intentions. They motivate us to invest in moments of self-care and compassion. They’re our spiritual forget-me-nots, and they’re also beautiful. One of the questions we get asked most is “How do I choose a Mala?”. Choosing by intention is a great way to get started, there are other factors you should also consider when choosing a Mala.

Intention

Hold the vision and trust the process. This is the most personal part of the process. What do you want to create in your life? What are you working on? What do you truly desire? What are you struggling with? Ask yourself these questions and see if they guide to what you want to create as your intention. Once you get clear on what you want your intention to be, you will create a clear path. Intentions are all about you + what you want to achieve in your life!

Beauty

Things that you are attracted to are an integral part of your healing process. Whether it be a beautiful landscape, a cute animal or a gorgeous mala; stop and take a moment to observe the things you find beautiful. Develop your own personal aesthetic. Meditate on this and strive to see beauty in everything. Surrounding yourself with beautiful and uplifting things is very powerful. Reflect on the power that beauty has over our attention; when something is so aesthetically pleasing it takes over your consciousness and moves you to a new place.

Color

What is your favourite color, and what colors are you typically drawn to? What colors of clothing do you wear most often? What colour are your favourite foods and scents? Life is full of color, and like other things on your spiritual path it has meaning. You want to choose a mala that you will use and wear often, so it’s important to choose a stone color combination that you are drawn to and can see being a staple in your wardrobe.

Shape

Find a Mala guru stone with a shape you connect with. Some Gurus stones are circular, teardrop, or oval shaped. Others have a raw edge. Ever heard of sacred geometry? The strands of our DNA, the galaxy we spiral within, the air we breathe, and all life forms as we know them emerge out of timeless geometric codes.

Energy

Each gemstone that we use in our Malas are believed to emit their own special vibration + healing energy. There are gemstones for every mood, trouble or desire you can imagine. Gemstones are to be worn near the chakras, which are energy centres of the body. Make sure that this energy aligns with your intention! A lot of Malas will assist everyone on some level – see if you can find something that you connect with individually.

Intuition

When in doubt, trust your vibes! Which Mala were you originally drawn to? Which mala do you keep thinking about? Which one jumps off of the page? This is most likely the perfect mala for you! The more you trust your intuition, the stronger it gets. Choosing a mala is a combination of all of these factors – most importantly follow your intuition and follow your heart.

Timing

What’s going on in your life right now? Maybe you’ve just come out of a breakup and could use a reminder of self-love. Maybe you’ve just left your office job to pursue your career as a yoga teacher and you’re seeking the confidence to push forward in the direction of your dreams. There’s a Mala for that! From Hana with Love

It was something we never thought we could do (which has made it all the more powerful).

When our founder, Diana, tried to make it to Hana, Hawaii back in February she had to turn around at the halfway point after suffering from severe motion sickness.

Even though she was feeling a strong unexplainable pull to get there, she surrendered to her body and said to her husband “there’s probably nothing there I had to see anyway” (she was wrong).

A few days later while flipping through photos on Instagram she was e-introduced to our Tiny Devotions Ambassador Eliza Darling (who she then discovered lived in Hana).

Eliza embodies the spirit of Tiny Devotions. She is a beautiful yogini filled to the brim with energy, truth, strength and magic.

Diana instantly knew that this was the missing Hana piece and regret started to set in that she hadn’t made it.

Then the idea came to bring Hana to our Tiny Devotions community. It was partly selfish (we wanted to experience the free spirited, raw, and gorgeous life of untouched Hana ourselves). But it was so necessary for us. Anything you can’t do, is usually something you must do. We made some calls, pulled some lei’s and we got the breathtaking, awe inspiring photos to prove it.

Boho Girl on a Budget: The Top Ten Ways to Girls Night-the Boho Way!

_P9A9241There are a lot of things that every Boho girl needs to know. When she’s not out experiencing her favorite yoga class, catching some waves at the beach, or taking in a summer stroll, she’s with her friends, enjoying the best parts of life with the ones she cares about most. Though these are always the sweetest of times for any Boho beauty, they can be a big drain on the wallet, if you’re not careful.

The greatest knowledge that any Boho girl can possess for a night of fun is how to have an incredible time without blowing your budget. Finances can be tricky, but hey; truth, beauty, freedom, and love don’t have to come at a pretty price. It’s possible to spend a night with your closest girls and keep it simple. Simplicity is the greatest gift in life, and when we stay mindful of this practice, we can achieve anything (especially a sweet party).

In honor of the bohemian tradition of fun and fancy-free, here are ten ways to have a girl’s night, the boho way:

1.  In the beginning, make a plan. Get together with the gals and decide on the type of outing you’d like to have. Create a foundations of a perfect night and start building!

2.  Agree on a budget and chip in together. If you want to do something that requires a little extra cash, come up with an idea of how much it will cost per person and put your finances together. Sharing the cost will definitely lighten the load.

3.  Public transit it up! If you’re going on a getaway, meet up at the subway station, streetcar, or bus stop and travel together. Better yet, if it’s within walking distance, get your exercise on! This will not only cut down on costs, but it’s environmentally friendly and safe, should you choose to enjoy a glass of your favorite alcoholic beverage together.

5.   Share your musical talents. Concerts can be super expensive these days, so grab your guitar playing, drum beating friends, and create your own concert! You’d be pretty surprised at how talented people can be when there are no judgments around them.

6.   Have a game night. Who doesn’t love delving into childhood territory and enjoying some of the boardgames you used to play when you were kids? Get everyone to bring their favorite boardgame to a pre-disclosed location and watch the hilarity ensue! (Hint: ‘Twister’ is a solid bet at any age).

7.  Three words; outdoor yoga class. Check out a class online and get ready to vinyasa in the open, evening air. If you have a friend who’s an instructor, that’s even better.

8.  Remember to be open to new ideas. Creativity is the seed of any great discovery. Be open to ideas, and be open to changes. A simple journey can result in the most incredible adventure, if you allow it to.

9.   A movie night is never a bad thing. Bring all the girls together and choose some of your favorite flicks, enjoying a night of snacks and laughs without bursting your bank accounts.

In a society that values money so much, we tend to forget that the best times in life are free. The Boho way, fortunately, will never let us down. Wellness Wednesdays with Hol:Fit- Top 5 Supplements for Optimal Health

Now that you’ve added in the 5 Most {Inside/Out} Beautifying Foods, today I want to review 5 Supplements you may want to consider.

It’s important to know that there is no supplement that will trump a consistently healthy, organic whole foods diet. With that in place though – there are still times you may not be getting everything you need. Our soil quality, toxic environment and lifestyle can leave us depleted, and that is where the beauty of supplements comes in. Always seek out foods rich in the components of these 5 supplements first and remember that you generally get what you pay for when you are looking at brands. And before you dive you in – it’s always best to chat with your medical professional to understand what your specific gaps + requirements are.

 

Here are the Top 5 Supplements to consider:

1. Omega 3:

While the obsession with low-fat foods has come + gone, most people still do not get enough healthy fats in their diet. Fats contribute to mental health, hormonal balance, reduce inflammation and most importantly – ensure that vitamins A,D,E + K are absorbed properly! After researching all the fish oil supplements on the market, I feel that Fermented Cod Liver Oil by Green Pastures is the way to go. It’s contains the most deficient forms of Omega 3’s, DHA + EPA and is naturally high in Vitamins A  + D.

2. Vit D:

If you live in a seasonal climate, are dark skinned or don’t get at least 10 min of sunlight on your sunscreen-free skin, there is a good chance you are deficient in Vit D. This is something your doctor can do a simply blood test to determine which is great so that you have a baseline to compare to after you start supplementing. Vit D is a hormonal precursor and deficiency is linked to many diseases. Optimal levels in the body range between 50-70ng and again you can work with your doctor to determine where you are currently at. The best approach would be to get outdoors every every and let the sun kiss your cheeks for about 10 min. Otherwise – this is my fave D3 supplement:

3. Magnesium:
This is a necessary supplement due to our soils being so depleted and it is difficult to get enough from food sources. An anti-inflammatory and lacking in many

people’s diets. The are several ways you can top up your levels – being mindful that you don’t exceed 500 mg total per day. Topically – you can apply Magnesium Oil to your skin – I would focus on areas of typical inflammation for you. Internally you can take magnesium supplements – my fave way is to make a tea at night using Natural Calm brand. Lastly – you could just take a bath! Run the water and add 1cup of epsom salts, dazzle it up with a few drops of pure lavender essential oil and soak for about 20 min 3x a week. Boom! Relaxation, magnesium supplementation + bliss.

4.Gelatin:

Want healthier hair, skin, nails + joints along with improved digestion? You may have heard of the healing powers of Bone Broth and it’s due to the gelatin. Most people see noticeable changes in their skin, hair + nails within weeks of taking. My fave brand is Great Lakes Grass-Fed Gelatin. As a supplement 1tbsp has 6g of protein – so it’s a nice add into a smoothie, or you can use it to make homemade jello.

5. Probiotics: 

Happy gut = happy life and the best way to ensure a happy gut is to make sure you have more good bacteria than you do the bad guys. Gut health has a huge impact on your overall health and by supplementing with probiotics you will boost your immunity and improve digestion, absorption + elimination. Fermenting foods to preserve + produce probiotics is still a practice in many cultures and has become popular in recent years once again. So raise that glass of kombucha boho babe!
