Five Ways to Turn Your Dream into a Reality

SOIFYiuY48ahEKgulm0xa6Zdt9QR3pr_J-DFB5oX5Kg1. Get Clear. Whose dream are you chasing? Is it really yours? Or something your mother/father/society expects of you? Understand that whatever dream you’re chasing is actually a desire to feel a certain way. How do you want to feel? An excellent tool to discover and embody these feelings is The Desire Map. Once you’re clear on how you want to feel, you’ll be best poised to pursue the dreams that truly matter.

2. Start Before You’re Ready. Just begin. Perfectionism is on a continuum with procrastination. It’s much more important to have forward motion of any kind over waiting until all the pieces are lined up. Because, guess what? They’re never gonna line up. There will always be something that isn’t quite right, some bit that you don’t know how to do, some other task that’s competing for your attention (the dishes! The kids want dinner! Facebook!!) But your mantra is: “I’ll figure it out.”

3. Relax & Focus. Remember that on your deathbed, you won’t wish you had really spent more time working and less time being creative. At the same time, it’s helpful to know that in a thousand years it likely won’t matter, so there’s no need to take it all so seriously. Chronic stress — whether from a job, a relationship, or the inner critic that just won’t let you be — must be addressed. Commit to just 15 minutes per day of uninterrupted space to work on your dream.

4. Disappoint Some People. As most of us are busy people who tend to multitask, so finding the time to devote to a new project will almost always mean having to say no to other people’s agendas a lot more often. This can be very challenging, but it becomes easier with practice. My coach says one sign of success is saying no to cooler and cooler stuff. Haha! Remember that saying “no” to other people is really saying a much bigger “YES” to your dream.

5. Connect to Others. We live in the golden age of the Internet, and it’s easier than ever before to surround yourself with mentors, experts, and a tribe of people who are all blazing the same type of path as you. Seek out relationships on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Have conversations. Ask questions. Offer support. Collaborate with people. But do it choicefully. Allies can also be plants, animals, natural objects, tools and the Earth itself. Pay no mind to critics, and solicit feedback only from those who are in your arena, as Brene Brown has famously recommended. Read books. Immerse yourself in gratitude for all the tools and advantages we have that support the opportunity to make your dream a reality.

The Gypsy Girls’ Guide to Intention Setting

If you haScreen Shot 2014-07-02 at 12.37.13 PMd told me a year ago I would be writing an article about my dreams and intentions, planning, hosting yoga-based events, and supporting my community with the resources I now have, I wouldn’t have believed you, not in a million years! If you’ve ever taken a yoga class, some of these tips may sound familiar. If you have never taken a yoga class then maybe it’s time. . .

1. LET IT GO: This is a mantra that I say to myself, several times a day, seven days a week! If it isn’t serving you, if it’s holding you back, giving you negative energy… Let. It. Go. That monkey chatter telling you that you can’t do something because of xyz excuse? You do not… I repeat, DO NOT need it. Need a reminder? The Let it Go Mala is an excellent way to keep this intention in the forefront of your mind.

2. BREATHE:  Throughout our days we may encounter something that stresses us out – whether that be hitting snooze one to many times and running late, or our kids talking back to us, or our boss telling us we aren’t performing to our standards. Don’t forget to breathe – several inhales and exhales with or without an intention (“Stay Present”, “Let It Go”, “I Am Loved”, etc.) can make a difference.

3. DREAM (BIG): What makes you happy? What makes you excited and scared all at once? What are you passionate about? If you’re anything like me, you may not have known what you wanted to be when you grew up. I DO know that I love helping people, sharing things I’m passionate about (yoga), and supporting those that are closest to me! If you follow what makes you genuinely happy, you are on the right track.

4. MANIFEST AN INTENTION: Sometimes things happen organically without planning or putting much thought into it (or maybe I’m getting better at this manifestation?)… but sometimes it takes a little more! Your manifesting be as simple as staying positive or as huge as teaching a yoga workshop to 300 people at a large festival. It doesn’t have to be scary or set butterflies in your tummy… but it should be something positive and worth thinking (and dreaming) about.

5. WRITE IT DOWN: Seeing your dreams and intentions on paper can help you visualize them when you’re feeling stuck in life or literally stuck in traffic. What are your hopes and fears? What is holding you back?

87nQv5qmqauLkfKtV57TJXRcgbmkucXFGtKfahvEuwI,wVTPPAWleJW9CZbwvxtYvm2zyUIHMXAGSwk8o9J7AZM6. SHARE: Dreaming about something and thinking about it is great… but to be able to keep yourself accountable and on track, you should be sharing these thoughts with your trusted tribe. These are people who believe in you when you don’t believe in yourself, who keep you motivated, tell it to you straight when your random idea isn’t going to work, and will help you map out a new idea. Sharing helps solidify your intentions!

7. GATHER YOUR TRIBE: Surround yourself with people who will support YOU! Maybe you have one or two people that will walk through hell and back with you, but maybe you don’t. The law of attraction is “likes tend toward likes”. Your friends should have similar intentions for themselves personally and may not understand your crazy ideas, but they GET you and still support you. And just like your friends support you, there should be some level of support going back to them. Be the person you want to surround yourself with!

8. DO SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY: For myself, I love doing yoga – it makes my mind and body happy. I like to set aside time – even if it’s 10 min during my day to myself. It isn’t selfish… it will help you be a better person to yourself and for the people you surround yourself with.

9. COME BACK TO YOUR INTENTION: What is your intention? Maybe it’s simple and you can just remind yourself throughout the day. Maybe it’s bigger and you need more reminders – like putting an image on your lockscreen of your phone or posting a note by your mirror or door so you see it daily. There is something about reminding ourselves about what our intentions are that helps keep us focused and centered.

10. BELIEVE: Believe in yourself and you’re halfway there – Theodore Roosevelt
Get rid of the negative self chatter and honestly see yourself doing what you’ve only dreamed about.  You will be happier for it.

Cook Your Ass Off with Keri Glassman

Keri Glassman (6) - WebsizeShe’s a nationally recognized nutrition expert, published author and serious goddess. We sat down with Keri Glassman to talk about the things that inspire her to live a healthy, soulful life and here’s what she had to say!

What have you done recently to inspire people to live a more nutritious life?

I recently was the nutrition judge on the show Cook Your Ass Off  on upwave on HLN. When I first heard of the show, I thought “I LOVE this idea! How has it not been done before?!” People seek out health information everywhere – tv, magazines, online, apps, professionals etc. And people love cooking competitions. Yet the concept of adding the health element to the competition had never been done. I’m a nutritionist – my passion is teaching health – and food of course – so this format I fell in love with. My message on the show was simple – healthy does not mean deprivation or lack of flavor. The healthiest, best foods for you are naturally incredibly tasty. I loved being able to help show America how real and healthy food can taste amazing!

What brought you to the mat for the first time?

I am naturally a quick-paced, high energy type of person who like everyone else has to confront stress (and I own it!). I always say out of all the pillars of a nutritious life, stress is the pillar that I’ve had to work on the hardest. I’m not naturally a calm person; I’m naturally a revved-up person. So learning to take it down a notch with yoga was not inherent for me.  I’m naturally more of a runner, spinner kind of person. But, it was definitely something I needed in my life.  Exercise was always my therapy and I also meditate. I usually do my own little quick mini-meditations, sometimes just an 8-count breath. It only made sense to marry the two and start practicing yoga.

Who and what inspires you?

My kids, Rex and Maizy!! It may sound cliche, but I think once you have children there is this constant, reminder and reason to always raise your bar. Simply, they keep you in check.  They inspire me to be and do my best in everything from work to parenting and everything in between.

What advice do you have for all the boho yogis out there!

Healthy living is not just about eating and exercise. I always say that there are 8 pillars of a Nutritious Life that are all equally important to overall health and wellness. These pillars encompass everything from food to hydration to sleep to sex.  They work together in harmony to create a healthier mind and body.  If you skimp on sleep, you might be too tired to work out, and you might also make poorer food choices, and so on. Everything from your environment to the liquids you put in your body to the food you consume to your relationships to pampering yourself work together from a behavioural aspect and also a physiological aspect to create the best “you” possible.

Oh yeah… and what is your favourite mala and why?!

Hands down, my favourite mala would have to be  the Rock Your Bliss Mala, it’s all about creating the life of your dreams through clear intention setting, mad love + truth, and radical positive energy.  So, if you need me, I am here rocking my bliss right now!

Confessions from a Boho Fashionista: My Top 3 Spring Must-Haves

Topspringmusthavetinydevotions

Hey Boho Beauties,

After ballet last week, a girlfriend of mine commented on the super soft, hot pink tights I’d worn to our power plié class.

“Those tights are unreal. You’ve got everything I want—I just can’t keep up,” she told me.  “How do you do it?”

We’d been stretching and twirling at this studio together for months now, and I’d never noticed she felt that way.

What she said sat with me for a while after I left, and it wasn’t until I hit the dark and leafies in the Whole Food’s produce section that it came to me. I DO have everything I want, but the pink tights had nothing to do with it.

I grabbed my kale and baby bok-choy, bee lined it to the cash and tried to hurry out of there to call my gal pal.

The line was thick at the till to pay, so my eyes scanned over the cash out’s trashy magazines. Their covers flashed the latest scandals, slim down tricks and ‘Spring Must-Haves’.

“Spring Must-Haves,” I thought to myself.  I paused and thought of my hot pink tights, having it all and my own personal Spring Must-Haves.

As soon as the cashier handed me my bags, I dialed up my girlfriend and spilled my personal Spring Must-Haves to her.

Here’s a hint: Must-Haves aren’t about having everything!

My Top 3 Spring Must-Haves

1.Child-Like Curiosity

Do you remember being little and dancing under the trees? Letting your head fall dangerously far back on the merry-go-round and eating so many pop rocks that your tongue went blue? It was a time when your dreams had no limits, and anything was possible.  Guess what? That time is still here! My Top Spring Must-Have is the memory of that child-like time, and ‘acting as if’. No matter what you’re wearing, or who you are with, that feeling is your greatest accessory.

2. A Warm Cup of Lemon Tea

This Must-Have is best used in the morning, before you’ve consumed anything else.  A warm cup of lemon tea or water soothes your internal organs and your soul. The best way to serve others is to first serve yourself. So start your day off right by cleaning your pipes and preparing your body for a sparkly day! You can drink detoxifying lemon tea at any time of the day to make your skin glow, help you sleep soundly and maintain inner and outer peace.

3. My Favorite Mala

As the seasons change, so too do our intentions. This is why keeping your favorite mala close to your heart is important for remembering meaningful dreams and intentions. I’m wearing my Awakening Mala as we move into spring to expand my dreams, dance like no one is watching and awaken all of the potential that lives within me.

Go grab your favorite mala, Boho bellas, and take some time to consider your own special Spring Must-Haves.

Peace, Love and Magic from Bohemia xx
