Using Mala Beads for Meditation

Mala beads can be used in a variety of ways to help you manifest and achieve your dreams + desires. Our NEW Meditation Mala Collection features 6 Malas, each designed to keep you focused and on track during your practice on that specific intention, affirmation or mantra.

Originally used for japa meditation, mala beads are a great addition to any modern meditation practice. Wear your mala around your neck or clasp it firmly in your palms as you tune in and focus on your breathYou can also bring your mala beads to your mat during your yoga practice as a way to focus and bring awareness to your intentions. This is a great way to infuse your mala with the energy of your practice. We recommend placing your mala beads on the corner of your mat and using them as a focal point during your practice.

Whats In Her Boho Bag with MB LaRue

She’s a yoga teacher + life coach, as well as a lover of avocados, French press coffee, hip hop, Mala Beads and dogs – especially her lovable English bulldog Rosy. Mary Beth Larue is the co-founder of Rock Your Bliss a yoga + goals movement inspiring and empowering others to live their yoga both on and off their yoga mats.

We caught up with MB to find out whats in her bag!

my iPad mini: My husband surprised me with this gift last Christmas and I carry it with me everywhere. It’s chock full of all of my favorite music (Lapsley, Erykah Badu, Bonobo), my favorite books (anything by Byron Katie plus a billion other books) and notes for my classes, retreats, blogs, etc. It’s a creative Virgo’s dream come true!

Stinky Yogi’s Pranayama Blend: I am obsessed with this blend of essential oil by my girl Stacey. The blend is peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary and lemon.

my Rock Your Bliss mala: I love the mala Jacki and I designed with Tiny Devotions. My favorite stone is the Howlite guru stone which influences you to release stress and let go of negativity so you can create space in your heart and mind for love, creativity + bliss. The stone inspires us to receive wisdom and attunement from the Higher Self and the Divine. And the mala is GORGEOUS. (ya… we totally agree MB! :))

my red, tattered, so-loved Moleskine notebook: Oh man, this notebook has been loved up. It’s full of class sequences, musings, to-do lists, etc. I love looking through it. And the back pocket is stuffed with notes, things ripped out of magazines, etc.

my headphones: I adore my noise cancellation headphones for solo coffee shop dates. It says “I’m focused, no chit chat.” :)

my Moo business cards: You know how some people get offended by the question, “So what do you do?” I find this the juiciest question ever and am absolutely never offended. I love hearing what people are passionate about and what lights them up. And I’m always into building community. (Except in a coffee shop with my head phones on. :) )

my Ganesha keychain: I’ve had a Ganesha keychain in my bag for 9 years and have lost it several times and always find it. Ganesha is a Hindu deity and the remover of obstacles and I like to think that he’s working for me all the time.

Grab your gypset tote and hit up Rock Your Bliss’ next retreat!

Styling Intentions with the Babes at Skinny Fat Girl Diary!

We here at Skinny Fat Girl Diary, are so thrilled to be featured on Bohodaily.com… A place that celebrates green juice, a healthy lifestyle, and agrees that the best way to explore life… is in your yoga pants! We discovered this community of goddesses after falling in love with Tiny Devotions’ scarves; handmade works of art, both stylish and practical. But more than fabric, they inspire us to focus on our intention. The scarf is a colorful reminder during a hectic day, to breathe, enjoy the moment, and reconnect– just what we need at the SFG Diary.

We are three health fanatics living in LA, with crazy work schedules – all while, cooking, yoga-ing and bedazzling for our blog. It’s overwhelming what we strive to accomplish in an hour, day or week… and we know we aren’t alone! That’s why we created a space to find the silver lining along life’s journey. Why cry, when you can bake vegan-inspired carrot cake and laugh together?

Here’s three different ways to style your intentions…

Jackie, the brunette amongst blondes, embraces the bohemian look… it’s sexy, laid-back and looks fabulously effortless.  When I saw their hipster scarf, it was love at first sight!  My first fashion rule is “comfort,” so any way I can jazz up a simple outfit with something stylish… I’m in! The Hipster scarf makes me feel like I can conquer anything, and not to mention look pretty chic while doing it… it even makes my yoga pants look inspired!

Lauren seems to never stop running… that is until she saw the Prana Del Mar scarf. I’m absolutely obsessed with bright colors this summer. Until recently, I never really embraced my body type and used to hide it behind lots of dark colors. Something shifted after a couple month in hot yoga rooms and I became grateful to be strong. So, I’m embracing my sense of adventure with bright teal jewelry, pinks, cut-offs and my Prana Del Mar scarf in tow.

Valorie never sleeps. Seriously… this girl is like the energizer bunny– she does it all (until 4 am) and still looks fabulous! Summer is usually hotter than Haiti but thankfully in Los Angeles, summer evenings tend to get pretty chilly– especially close to the water! I’m all about laid-back California style—splashes of color and a white jean are the perfect beach-side combo. This Sanibel scarf is seasonal perfection, glowing with hues of pink and orange… Colors are a reflection of your attitude; I’m staying in the spirit of summer by staying happy and active in bright, light colors!

Confessions from a Boho Fashionista. 365 days of Summer: How to keep your California Soul All Year Round.

summerheartHey Boho Beauties,

Long hot days, road trips with our gal pals, and sun chasing on Cali’s best beaches are the best part of summertime. I’m dusting off my cut-offs and gypsy gear, and dreaming off all the special things that are going to happen under the heat of the boho sun. But I got to thinking: summertime isn’t just for summer! It helps a goddess out when the sun shines endlessly on her back, a lakefront cottage is never far, and weekend festivals are plentiful; But every gal who lives with intention knows that summer is a feeling and California is a mindset.

Here are my top 7 tips on how to keep your California soul all year round.

  1. Headstands – What do headstands and summertime have to do with one another? In the summertime we’re filled with endorphins and child-like wonder. Beach babes can literally feel the magic in the air. Headstands are a natural way to bring out the same type of chemical in the body, energize your soul, and will have you feeling like a child again.
  2. Spontaneity – There’s something about the heat of the summer that screams, “Go girl, do that thing you’ve been dreaming of!” Here’s the catch: there’s nothing stopping you from doing that thing all year round. Start practicing your special skills of spontaneity and see how totally fun it is!
  3. summer heart1Fashion – There’s so much to try out in the summer! From maxis to minis, and beach bags to tassles, a girl has got a lot of choice. But fashion is just as much fun in the winter and spring, so bring that same kind of whimsical wonder into your wardrobe, year round! I suggest Malas and moccassins as a trademark wardrobe piece for every summertime sister 😉
  4. Self Care – If you live in a cold climate, or your schedule doesn’t allow you time for the outdoors, it’s so important to bring the heart of the outdoors to your self-care regime! Take a bath with coconut candles, do a salt scrub, put on tiki music and meditate about the beauty of the beach. You’ll feel the spirit of the shore in no time!
  5. Hot Yoga – This type of yoga is every girls dream when the weather has you down, if you’re looking to tone up or get a better sleep, and of course, to feel the humidity of summertime! Check out a hot yoga studio near you to really reap all of the amazing benefits (trust me, you won’t regret it!)
  6. Travel – A boho gal has got to travel! From Bali to Australia, California to the Hawaiian Coast, there are so many places under the sun to see. But your travels don’t have to be far. It’s the idea of travel that will keep your California soul alive. Plan a trip with your besties to a local winery or spa. Find a fun yoga or meditation retreat and see what adventures might be waiting for you there!
  7. Vision Boarding – This is a very powerful practice for gypsy goddess and beach babes. In the summer, endorphins are wild and alive, which means our vision can be more clear. In colder or darker months it can be more of a challenge to keep the clarity of our dreams. This doesn’t mean your dreams aren’t still alive! You just need a little direction. Sit down with some colorful markers, inspiring pictures, and pretty paper, and envision all that you desire. It’s an instant way to feel good, remember your dreams and keep your California soul!

These are my favorite ways to keep my California soul alive, but tell me boho babes, what are yours? I know you’ve got some special ways to keep the summer sunshine with you all year round! Tell me all about it in the pink comment section above 😉
