Confessions from a Boho Fashionista: Eating for the Soul. My Top 6 Spirit Friendly Ingredients Fit for Every Goddess!

Have you ever dug into a special meal and felt so totally satisfied in your entire body and soul, but couldn’t quite put your finger on why you felt that way? The chow you were chewing was seriously phenomenal. It left your belly happy; your spirit excited, and had you glowing all day long. Every bite was beyond—to the point of ecstatic bliss.

It wasn’t until a couple of years ago when a few special green goddesses (and gods) came into my life that I discovered the difference between lack luster lunches and delicious dinners.  These fine friends showed me the magic of eating for my soul.  You see, the things you put into your body literally feed your soul. You charge your brain, spirit, and body system with the foods you eat and the right choices can make all the difference.  Here are the top six items I keep in my kitchen to set my soul on fire with every meal:

Cilantro. Some folks hate the stuff, but these fresh leafies have me begging for a second helping every time. Let’s get down to the dirty on cilantro! Rich in vitamin-C and K, this nutrient rich ingredient is a serious anti-oxidant. You feel amazing when you add cilantro into dishes on the regular because it fights off viruses, toxins, and disease causing agents that make you feel sick. Every goddess deserves to shine, so if you love the taste like I do, try cilantro on your next salad or sprinkle some on top of warm veggies.

3d055b8700a8f936e35383bcc29863a8-1Garlic. This is one of my all time faves. It’s not just used for disease prevention, detoxification and other types of therapy—it tastes amazing! Back in the day it was used as an aphrodisiac, so if you’re having a sweet evening in with your honey add a little extra of the spicy stuff to your dinner and cozy up, babes.

Basil. This soft, dark leaf is so diverse! Alone it tastes a little like the dark licorice you’d chew on as a child, but in meals it can change something bland into total magic! You can use it in your fave caprese salad, or make an amazing organic peach pie with a splash of this healing herb.  Basil is known for keeping our hearts healthy and our joints smooth, as it is a known anti-inflammatory and essential in cardiovascular health.

Mint. Mint is the little green bad boy that can change a beverage, salad or meat dish into something seriously special on the double.  It’s unique taste matches well with other organic ingredients fruits, cheeses and meats and it aids in digestion. It has been known to help with fatigue, weight loss and nausea to say the least. Mint in the morning is a big game changer. Add mint to your fresh fruit tomorrow morning and notice your belly singing and thanking you!

Coconut Oil. I put coconut oil on nearly everything. My skin, my nails, my food: everything! This oil is so healing and it tastes amazing. It has been proven to aid in brain and heart health, and it regulates ones metabolism like it’s no one’s business. You can massage your leafy greens, use it in your smoothies or use it as a replacement for other oils. Use a small amount in your cooking and notice the delicious flavor!

a411c110c452af078eca6953ce11f2f5-1Kale. Kale is king of the green palace in my kitchen. This dense dark leafy takes precedence over all others when it comes to salads, smoothies and stir-fries. Here is the trick: massage your kale, boho bellas. When kale is massaged it’s dense walls break down a little and the “green” flavor isn’t so harsh. Its flavor literally changes and its texture softens. Take your favorite oil (coconut!) and massage your kale for a few moments. It will be ready to devour and you’ll enjoy it much more!

Confessions from a Boho Fashionista: A Gypsy Girl’s Guide to Saturday at the Market

TDFW13shootLondonWEBREZ89Saturday mornings are meant for perusing through open tables of sweet peaches, testing honey straight from the farm and sipping organic coffee while you do it! A gypsy gal should never miss out on Saturday at the fresh market, there are just so many magical things to experience there. Here are my favorite things to find at the market, and why you should try them this Saturday!

Raw Cacao

You’ll know you’re getting close to the raw chocolate stand long before you’ve made it there. This is because the scent of raw chocolate is entirely intoxicating.  And it’s not just the scent that will get you going, this healthy form of the sweet and dark stuff is so delicious you’ll be lining up every Saturday for more. Raw cacao is also amazing for the heart and great for reducing stress! Be sure to load up on this sweet treat, because your gal pals will be begging you for a sliver 😉

Live Music

Have you ever felt that tingle along the top of your skin—the kind that happens when you hear something stunning? One of my favorite things about the market is walking by that guitar duo, hearing that boho twang coming straight from their hearts and feeling my baby hairs stand straight up.  Live music can really soothe a soul, so I suggest sitting down next time you’re at the market and taking time to soak up the sound.

Veggies Galore

The fruits and veg at the fresh market come straight from friendly guys and gals who grow the produce themselves. This way, when you’re cooking up kale and spinach, you know it’s been treated with care from the root to your plate.  When you hit up the veggie stands at the market, you can feel and smell the difference in the beautiful produce they offer. Your bags will overflow with brightly colored cabbage, collard greens and more after your stroll around the veggie stands.

Eco friendly Soaps and Beauty Products

Peppermint and almond are two of my favorite tastes- but after I first tested out the super eco-friendly products at the fresh market, I realized that they’re also amazing to wear! Peppermint and almond body butters, soaps and skin care are not only eco friendly, but they smell (and feel) divine. Your skin and senses will sparkle and thank you when you use these oh-so-friendly products.

What do you do to inspire your community?
I activate the seed of potential in people so their consciousness sprouts, blooms, blossoms and soars! This aligns their energetic field with Source Energy, which then uplifts people around them, and raises the frequency of entire communities. This is what I was born to do. I first transformed my own life by healing 17 official medical diagnoses, releasing 150 pounds of weight (yes, a whole person!) naturally, myself, and then creating and tripling my home-based Spirit-Led business, so am now not only honoured, but ecstatic to be guiding others into manifesting the lives of their dreams!
What brought you to the mat for the first time + what keeps you there now?
I had been to many yoga classes in my early twenties, but before studying the work of Eckhart Tolle, author of The Power of Now, yoga was just stretching. I learned the mantra from him that I still say when I’m running, walking, and throughout the day, no matter what I am doing, the very one that initially broke through previous constricting barriers in my mind, allowing me to expand then later powerfully transform my life: “If not now, when?” The practice of living in full presence each and every moment keeps me going back. Returning to the mat regularly incorporates my body in this process, and grounds my energy by rooting it back to Mother Earth. This starts as soon as I take off my socks and shoes . . .
Who + What inspires you?
The propensity of life to flow forward and continuously expand truly inspires me. I feel it most intensely when I’m in the forest, surrounded by mountains. I love tapping into the interplay of energy between everything living, and immersing myself in the Source of it all, and remembering that I have access to it no matter where I may be on the planet. Sharing this learning, expansion and JOY with others allows me to feel most invigorated, alive, and aligned with my authentic purpose.
How do you set intentions in your life?
I look at the gorgeous tall trees on the West Coast of Canada where I live, smile, close my eyes, feel their presence, then begin speaking to them, with no words, just energetic emissions directly from my heart. The very first energy I send is Thank You…
Advice for yogis out there?
I have noticed that alignment with integrity – what you know to be truth for you, in every given moment, is an essential guiding force for human lives. If what we are doing, saying, and being feels true, then we are enabled to access our best selves, our best lives. When we trust, allow, and let go of all that stands in the way from acting upon that inner knowing and guidance, we strengthen our body, mind, spirit, and amazing things happen. This is the practice.
Your favourite mala bead and why?
Carnelian Mala of Abundance. Holding the essence of expansion into our highest potential, it assists Life Coaches like me in fulfilling our purpose. Its high energy reflects mine back to me, and I just want to swim in the smoky, earthy tribal colour of it. To dramatic pursuits!

Confessions from a Boho Fashionista: My Top 3 Spring Must-Haves

Hey Boho Beauties,

After ballet last week, a girlfriend of mine commented on the super soft, hot pink tights I’d worn to our power plié class.

“Those tights are unreal. You’ve got everything I want—I just can’t keep up,” she told me.  “How do you do it?”

We’d been stretching and twirling at this studio together for months now, and I’d never noticed she felt that way.

What she said sat with me for a while after I left, and it wasn’t until I hit the dark and leafies in the Whole Food’s produce section that it came to me. I DO have everything I want, but the pink tights had nothing to do with it.

I grabbed my kale and baby bok-choy, bee lined it to the cash and tried to hurry out of there to call my gal pal.

The line was thick at the till to pay, so my eyes scanned over the cash out’s trashy magazines. Their covers flashed the latest scandals, slim down tricks and ‘Spring Must-Haves’.

“Spring Must-Haves,” I thought to myself.  I paused and thought of my hot pink tights, having it all and my own personal Spring Must-Haves.

As soon as the cashier handed me my bags, I dialed up my girlfriend and spilled my personal Spring Must-Haves to her.

Here’s a hint: Must-Haves aren’t about having everything!

My Top 3 Spring Must-Haves

1.Child-Like Curiosity

Do you remember being little and dancing under the trees? Letting your head fall dangerously far back on the merry-go-round and eating so many pop rocks that your tongue went blue? It was a time when your dreams had no limits, and anything was possible.  Guess what? That time is still here! My Top Spring Must-Have is the memory of that child-like time, and ‘acting as if’. No matter what you’re wearing, or who you are with, that feeling is your greatest accessory.

2. A Warm Cup of Lemon Tea

This Must-Have is best used in the morning, before you’ve consumed anything else.  A warm cup of lemon tea or water soothes your internal organs and your soul. The best way to serve others is to first serve yourself. So start your day off right by cleaning your pipes and preparing your body for a sparkly day! You can drink detoxifying lemon tea at any time of the day to make your skin glow, help you sleep soundly and maintain inner and outer peace.

3. My Favorite Mala

Confessions from a Boho Fashionista: Eat the Love You Feel

It’s Valentine’s day in Bohemia, and I’m prepping for a romantic evening with my favorite special someone.

I spent a week visiting my super boho sister in San Francisco last spring, and she took me to a cooking class that blew our Californian minds. It wasn’t the class or the bronzed babe who taught it that made it so unbelievable. It was the simple, secret ingredient she shared with us that changed the way I cook forever.

I love to pay it forward, so this Valentine’s day my gift to you goddesses is the gift that Californian Chef gave to me.

Step One: Be a gourmet guru with love on your brain

After my week in the valley, I started cooking with love. Let me be more specific. Every time I walked into my kitchen, I went in with love on my mind.  I chopped veggies, and remembered sweet moments I’d spent with loved ones. I pulled dense leaves from kale stems, thought about times I’d felt sparkly and considered the people or places that made me feel that way. Then, I splashed oil and seeds on top of those beautiful culinary creations and soaked up the love.

Step Two: Eat the Love You Feel

Once the chow is ready, it’s time to eat the love. The magic in preparing a dish with love on your brain is that you are literally eating the love you felt when you made it. Pretty rad! Sit down, take a breath and let the quality love and kindness sink in.

Step Three: Share the Love You Madelet love in mala

After I’ve really felt the love, my favorite thing to do is share it. Those who’ve found the deepest love know that giving means receiving, so share that love-filled grub with your best gal pal or your sweetest honey.

My sweetie just showed up, so I’m putting on my Let Love In Mala and thinking some loving thoughts. Tonight when you’re massaging kale and cutting up veg, remember the people in your life who make it easy to love.
