Three Healing Affirmations Perfect for Summer

Summer is a great time to use healing affirmations to build a stronger, healthier and more loving relationship with yourself and your body. I have personally experienced the amazing power of healing affirmations in my own life, after having lost over 60 pounds naturally and healed my body of chronic health issues.

before_afterYour thoughts are powerful
Psychologists estimate that you have over 60,000 thoughts a day but the interesting thing is that 95% of them were the same thoughts you had yesterday!
In my experience, affirmations always work best when you first set a healing intention.
So, if you are ready to create a healthier body and mind for the summer, let’s first take a look at the power of setting a healing intention.

Setting your healing intention
Think of your healing intention as the general direction you want your life to head in. It doesn’t need to be specific. In fact, your healing intention can be quite broad. The important thing is to let your healing intention be something that brings you real joy and delight.  Mala beads are a great way to focus and grow your intention.

Examples of a healing intention might be that you want

  • To follow your dreams
  • To listen to your heart
  • To love your life

After you have set your healing intention, now is the time to turn your attention towards the quality of your thoughts.

What are the thoughts that you say quietly to yourself?
Within all of us, lives an inner voice, like a record player, that plays away in the background. It offers a ‘live commentary’ on you and how you are living your life, (amongst other things!)
When your thoughts are disapproving, critical or negative, this voice acts as your ‘inner critic’.
But, with awareness of your mind and your thoughts, you can learn how to transform it from your inner critic to your inner cheerleader!

How to befriend your inner voice.
If you catch yourself saying something negative about yourself, just stop mid-sentence .
Congratulate yourself for noticing. Quickly ask yourself, ‘what is something kinder and more loving that I could say to myself?’ And then repeat that thought instead. Let this replace old, repetitive negative thinking. Critical thoughts transform effortlessly into healing affirmations when you flip them into more supportive, kind and loving ones that make you feel good from within.

Here are 3 healing affirmations to start using…

Affirmation #1: Today, I am choosing to be kind and gentle to myself.

Affirmation #2: Today, I am learning how to express my creativity in the world.

Affirmation #3: I am feeling healthier and stronger with each day that passes.

Use the power of healing affirmations this Summer!

To achieve your goals and dreams, transform negative or sabotaging thoughts into new, empowering and healing affirmations instead. Trust in the process and know that transformation and healing happens naturally within the space of conscious awareness. Soul Study: My Top Three Fave Summer Reads.

8e1aa474d16e5e31b16cce378845f7e7Summer is just around the corner and Bohemia is shining! From every corner, gals and guys are practicing yoga in the sunlight and prepping their surf boards for a few epic months of welcoming warmth. It’s already starting, my dearest boho friends, and it will be no time all before the moment for beach bumming will arrive!

I don’t think that there’s a person on this planet who can deny themselves the pleasure of a fabulous summer experience. Yes, sand from the beach gets everywhere, and yes, you must be careful of getting a sunburn, but there really is nothing to remind you of the beauty of the world like a walk through your favorite park, beach, or boardwalk on a summer’s day. It’s the reason why we breathe, and the time of the year that we most look forward to.

The sunny season is also the perfect time to catch up on your reading. There’s nothing better than laying out on your towel, coated in coconut scented SPF, a smoothie in one hand and the perfect book in the other. If I’m being perfectly honest, enjoying a good book in the sunlight is one of my favorite aspects of the summer months, and oh baby, are there some excellent ones to choose from!

In no particular order, and in honor of summer reads extraordinaire, here are my top five books for summer soul-searching and why you MUST pick them up today:

1)     The Alchemist, Paolo Coelho

A friend of mine suggested this one a few years ago, and I was spellbound. The story is simple; a young man goes out into the world to find his “personal treasure”. I’m going to leave it at that, but what ensues is a masterpiece that you won’t soon forget. Though it is a fictional storyline, the whole book reads almost as a spiritual self-help book that is both timeless and potent. Trust me, this one is not to be missed!

2)     A New Earth, Eckhart Tolle

This one is a gem, and in key with the hype around it, it is one of the most informative spiritual self-help books that I have ever read. Eckhart Tolle offers his opinions on the human condition, our greatness, our suffering, and the tools to overcome the greatest hurdle that we all have to overcome, our ego. This book definitely gives you what you put into its lessons, so follow its pages with an open mind and and open heart. You may be surprised at what you come to find in yourself as a result.

3)     The History of Love, Nichole Krauss

By far, this is the most powerful book that I have ever read. The story centers around Leo Gursky, a man who fell in love as a youth and began to write a book for his beloved called ‘The History of Love’. Years later, a young girl named Alma embarks on a journey to learn the         truth behind the character of her namesake, the central character in ‘The History of Love’. I don’t    mind telling you bohemian beauties that I shed quite a few tears reading this one. Beautiful,     unique, and above all, a celebration of life.

Surf’s Up! Get Bikini Ready in 5 Easy Steps

IMG_7958By Beata Rydyger BSc, RHN

The dog days of summer are well upon us – finally! – which means you’re probably gearing up to bare it all at the beach, pool or just because. Whether you’re an east- or west-coaster (or somewhere in between), you’ll surely agree that summer promotes shorter hemlines and slimmer waistlines. But before embarking on a caffeine-induced mega-marathon at the gym, check out these 5 simple tips that will have you bikini-ready before you can shout “surf’s up!”.

Count nutrients, not calories

Sounds shocking but it’s true! Calories are nothing more than a number and a nasty source of restriction with little value to overall health and vitality. Instead, fill up on foods that are closest to their natural state like seasonal fruits and vegetables, fibrous whole grains like quinoa or millet, power-packed proteins like hemp seeds and essential fats like the omega-3’s to guarantee a full spectrum of nutrients. Doing so will keep your metabolism high and fat-burners set to full blast. Become a clean eating machine and kick calories to the curb—for good!

fgrG-DMbJBLImD-D74IFNEM0ArQAqCZtkUgWSYBCStYChew chew chew!

Here’s a weight-loss remedy so simple that even a bunny rabbit can do it: chew, chew, chew! You can eat all the nutritious foods you want but if your digestion isn’t up to par your waistline will suffer. Chew your food at least 10–15 times before swallowing or until it feels like soup in your mouth (which is gross, but good!). This allows the digestive enzymes in your saliva to start breaking down food particles so that your stomach and intestines don’t work overtime. The result is better absorption of nutrients, more efficient elimination of waste and a flatter, bloat-free belly.

Ditch the drip

Sorry my dear java-drinking boho beauties but attaining that bikini-ready bod might mean cutting out coffee or at least trimming to one cup per day. Believe it or not but when you drink coffee your body releases many of the same hormones as when you’re stressed. These hormones, namely cortisol, wreak havoc on your insides by boosting inflammation, causing blood-sugar instability and by affecting fat storage and abdominal weight gain! Try cleaner, reduced-caffeine alternatives like green tea, yerba mate or caffeine-free coffee subs like Dandy Blend, kombucha or rooibos tea.

j_mVg1AgHFpvcNQuekrHRVpBHwz05xqSp9f116CaypQSnack smart

Eating 3 meals a day is becoming so outdated it’s ancient! Nowadays it’s all about snacking—and snacking smart! That means you want to be noshing on 3 or so mini meals and 2–3 snacks per day. This allows the body’s blood sugar levels to remain stable so as not to disrupt insulin levels and fat storage. As a quick rule of thumb: add protein to each snack, eat slow and eat until you feel almost full.

Before you catch a wave, catch some ZZZ’s

Getting an adequate amount of shut-eye per night is just as important as daily exercise for optimal weight loss and management. When you compromise sleep your body produces more of the hormones that trigger hunger and fewer of the hormones that reduce appetite. On top of that your body becomes depleted of nutrients that help keep stress in check and blood sugars stable! Tips for a solid sleep? Avoid eating at least 3 hours before bedtime and sleep in complete darkness sans electronics. Sweet dreams!

Here’s what Tiny Devotions ambassadors Erin and Ashley Ward Williams shared with the bohemian babes at headquarters about May long weekend.

Our Top Ten Bohemian Must-Haves for the First Long Weekend of the Summer:

1. Tabula Rasa Mala – Of course, you’ve got to have your favorite mala! We love the Tabula Rasa mala for this time of the year. The Yellow Jade and Citrine stones mimic the warmth of the summer sunshine. Their protective energies support you in doing new, bold and beautiful things this long weekend!

2.     Flash Tattoos – An expression of bold, metallic and boho. These temporary, non-toxic tattoos invoke a sense of freedom when they sparkle in the shimmery sunlight.

tinydevsingle33.     Messenger Bag – An easy over the shoulder throw is standard for days and nights out on an adventure.

4.     Vintage Anklet – “On my trip to India I picked up this gorgeous dangly anklet at a local market. Little tiny bells give a jingle noise as you frolic and play!” Keep it fun and expressive.

5.     Loose Fitting Tee’s – Light fabric and billowy styles keep it casual, yet feminine for the gypsy boho gal.

6.     Festival Shorties – Think cute, high-wasted denim shorts. Floral-printed fabric is back too!

7.     Picnic – Explore a local market for fresh finds or pack some yummy kale salad, watermelon, green juice and energy balls. Grab a blanket, a basket and find the perfect spot to enjoy with good company.

8.     Your Fave Yoga Pose – “My handstand work has finally paid off and I can’t wait to handstand everywhere – fresh grass, street-side, a public display of asana!” Try an outdoor yoga class or a sit quietly in nature for a grounding meditation.

9.     A Sense of Whimsy – Tap into your carefree side and be spontaneous for a day, open to taking in new sights, sounds, meeting new people. Go somewhere you’ve never gone before and take curiosity with you! You never know where the path could take you…

10. Your BFF – This is a kickoff to the summer season so grab your bestie and travel somewhere – near or far, grab a dandelion and make a wish, rest, relax, play and be in awe of this beautiful life <3

Confessions from a Boho Fashionista. 365 days of Summer: How to keep your California Soul All Year Round.

summerheartHey Boho Beauties,

Long hot days, road trips with our gal pals, and sun chasing on Cali’s best beaches are the best part of summertime. I’m dusting off my cut-offs and gypsy gear, and dreaming off all the special things that are going to happen under the heat of the boho sun. But I got to thinking: summertime isn’t just for summer! It helps a goddess out when the sun shines endlessly on her back, a lakefront cottage is never far, and weekend festivals are plentiful; But every gal who lives with intention knows that summer is a feeling and California is a mindset.

Here are my top 7 tips on how to keep your California soul all year round.

  1. Headstands – What do headstands and summertime have to do with one another? In the summertime we’re filled with endorphins and child-like wonder. Beach babes can literally feel the magic in the air. Headstands are a natural way to bring out the same type of chemical in the body, energize your soul, and will have you feeling like a child again.
  2. Spontaneity – There’s something about the heat of the summer that screams, “Go girl, do that thing you’ve been dreaming of!” Here’s the catch: there’s nothing stopping you from doing that thing all year round. Start practicing your special skills of spontaneity and see how totally fun it is!
  3. summer heart1Fashion – There’s so much to try out in the summer! From maxis to minis, and beach bags to tassles, a girl has got a lot of choice. But fashion is just as much fun in the winter and spring, so bring that same kind of whimsical wonder into your wardrobe, year round! I suggest Malas and moccassins as a trademark wardrobe piece for every summertime sister 😉
  4. Self Care – If you live in a cold climate, or your schedule doesn’t allow you time for the outdoors, it’s so important to bring the heart of the outdoors to your self-care regime! Take a bath with coconut candles, do a salt scrub, put on tiki music and meditate about the beauty of the beach. You’ll feel the spirit of the shore in no time!
  5. Hot Yoga – This type of yoga is every girls dream when the weather has you down, if you’re looking to tone up or get a better sleep, and of course, to feel the humidity of summertime! Check out a hot yoga studio near you to really reap all of the amazing benefits (trust me, you won’t regret it!)
  6. Travel – A boho gal has got to travel! From Bali to Australia, California to the Hawaiian Coast, there are so many places under the sun to see. But your travels don’t have to be far. It’s the idea of travel that will keep your California soul alive. Plan a trip with your besties to a local winery or spa. Find a fun yoga or meditation retreat and see what adventures might be waiting for you there!
  7. Vision Boarding – This is a very powerful practice for gypsy goddess and beach babes. In the summer, endorphins are wild and alive, which means our vision can be more clear. In colder or darker months it can be more of a challenge to keep the clarity of our dreams. This doesn’t mean your dreams aren’t still alive! You just need a little direction. Sit down with some colorful markers, inspiring pictures, and pretty paper, and envision all that you desire. It’s an instant way to feel good, remember your dreams and keep your California soul!

These are my favorite ways to keep my California soul alive, but tell me boho babes, what are yours? I know you’ve got some special ways to keep the summer sunshine with you all year round! Tell me all about it in the pink comment section above 😉

Confessions of a Boho Fashionista: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

mirrormirror1 Hey Boho Beauties,

Last May I moved into my dream apartment. Something about it just oozed magic. It was my first time living without another person. Before I’d rented the place, which sat under oak trees and always smelled like maple syrup, I was dreading spending the summer solo.

But it didn’t take long before I realized that I’d created a sanctuary for myself. It was my own personal palace that I’d subconsciously designed in which to celebrate and support myself.  I’d unpacked plush throws, adorned the place in vanilla candles and hung flowing satin curtains. There was something sparkly about this space that was much different than any other home I’d lived in.  Every morning I rose, feeling excited about all of the synchronicities that might happen throughout the day, and late in the evenings I was inspired to write all of my greatest stories.

Friends from near and far would appear with gifts and stay late to drink wine, laugh and dance long into the night.  We would share stories of all of the places we’d been and the exciting people we’d met there.  One night in the thick of the summer, after cooking the largest fresh salmon I’d ever laid eyes on, we sat doe eyed around the stone fire.

“Your home is enchanting,” said one of my pals. “I noticed though, there’s something is missing.”

“What’s that?” I replied.

“You don’t have any mirrors,” she said, “None in the bathroom, no mirrors anywhere. What’s the deal?”

I looked around. She was right, there were no mirrors in my apartment. May had rushed into June and June shifted smoothly into July. Here we were smack dab in the middle of August and I’d not placed a mirror on any of my walls. I looked around the glow that lit up this circle of my closest friends. My gaze shifted lovingly from pal to pal: Their wide eyes, their open hearts, their curious minds.

Then it hit me: I had many mirrors.  The mirrors I’d placed around my home were much more valuable than any picture of myself in a glass reflection.  The home I’d created and the beautiful gal pals in it were the best mirrors I could have picked out.awakening

Next time you’re self-reflecting, pop on your Awakening Mala and remember that all that you have created in your life is a beautiful reflection of who you are, no mirrors required.

Peace, Love and Magic from Bohemia xx
