Our Top Ten Must-Haves for a Bohemian Long Weekend!

TinyDevotionsFestivalTrend1It’s almost summer time, and with the magic of long weekends fast approaching, we just had to catch up with our favourite gypsy babes to ask them what their top ten must-haves are for the first long weekend of the season! Here’s what Tiny Devotions ambassadors Erin and Ashley Ward Williams shared with the bohemian babes at headquarters about May long weekend.

Our Top Ten Bohemian Must-Haves for the First Long Weekend of the Summer:

1. Tabula Rasa Mala – Of course, you’ve got to have your favorite mala! We love the Tabula Rasa mala for this time of the year. The Yellow Jade and Citrine stones mimic the warmth of the summer sunshine. Their protective energies support you in doing new, bold and beautiful things this long weekend!

2.     Flash Tattoos – An expression of bold, metallic and boho. These temporary, non-toxic tattoos invoke a sense of freedom when they sparkle in the shimmery sunlight.

tinydevsingle33.     Messenger Bag – An easy over the shoulder throw is standard for days and nights out on an adventure.

4.     Vintage Anklet – “On my trip to India I picked up this gorgeous dangly anklet at a local market. Little tiny bells give a jingle noise as you frolic and play!” Keep it fun and expressive.

5.     Loose Fitting Tee’s – Light fabric and billowy styles keep it casual, yet feminine for the gypsy boho gal.

6.     Festival Shorties – Think cute, high-wasted denim shorts. Floral-printed fabric is back too!

7.     Picnic – Explore a local market for fresh finds or pack some yummy kale salad, watermelon, green juice and energy balls. Grab a blanket, a basket and find the perfect spot to enjoy with good company.

8.     Your Fave Yoga Pose – “My handstand work has finally paid off and I can’t wait to handstand everywhere – fresh grass, street-side, a public display of asana!” Try an outdoor yoga class or a sit quietly in nature for a grounding meditation.

9.     A Sense of Whimsy – Tap into your carefree side and be spontaneous for a day, open to taking in new sights, sounds, meeting new people. Go somewhere you’ve never gone before and take curiosity with you! You never know where the path could take you…

10. Your BFF – This is a kickoff to the summer season so grab your bestie and travel somewhere – near or far, grab a dandelion and make a wish, rest, relax, play and be in awe of this beautiful life <3

Pssst! Which yoga pose are you, boho beauty?

fe83fd98d4646d81c780e2b527ccc6e3Yoga gives us the freedom to discover who we truly are. Time spent on your yoga mat is time to turn your attention inward, listen to what your soul is telling you and each pose (asana) is meant to open up new parts of ourselves.

If I could BE a yoga pose, I would be Tree Pose (Vrksasana). Just like the beauty in nature that this pose is named after you need a strong base to allow yourself to open up to the light. In the pose you need to press through your foot to activate your leg muscles to keep you supported, like the roots of a tree, but keep the knee loose to avoid locking, allowing you to bend without breaking like a young sapling. By creating a strong base and engaging your core you allow your upper body to move freely like the branches of a tree. You can inhale and float your arms up overhead and open them wide to hold the full moon, or bring them into prayer above your head or at your heart center, all while staying balanced.

I know a metaphor about trees and life is nothing new but I believe there’s never enough to say about being grounded. When we’re grounded in our life through family, friends, yoga and meditation is when we can truly open our minds, and our hearts, to all the Universe has to offer us.

I stay grounded through a daily meditation; holding my mala beads and saying the mantra “Open Heart, Open Mind,” through long walks to connect me to nature, journaling and conversations with my loved ones.

tiny-devotions-mala-beads-vrksasana-malas_largeMy favorite mala to help me stay grounded is the Vrksasana Mala. Holding this mala during meditation and having it near during yoga practice infuses the stones with your loving vibes; then wear it during your adventures to remind yourself that no matter what life brings your way you will stay grounded and strong like the ever inspiring tree.

Finding your yoga pose personality with the Prairie Yoga Girls.

PrairieYogiYMCAThe Prairie Yoga Girls are taking the West by storm with their cheeky, hip, yoga inspired magazine Prairie Yoga Magazine.  These free spirited, imaginative gals know a thing or two about yoga, and they’re here to show us how to get creative through our yoga pose personalities! Check out what they had to share with us below.

To the naked eye, a yoga mat looks like an ordinary rubber workout accessory. But yogi girls know that our yoga mat is a sacred piece with endless potential. No matter where you roll it out, it can be your sanctuary from the daily grind, your journal with whom you share your secrets and fears, and the space you can achieve what you never thought possible.

Being creative gypsy spirits, we cannot help but appreciate how our yoga mats can act as a canvas, a place where personal expression is free, vulnerable, and authentic. The asanas you bring you to your mat, whether through personal practice or from the style of yoga class you choose to attend, are a reflection of who you are and where you are at in this very moment. So, what’s your yoga personality? We’d love to share ours with you!

Our yoga pose personalities are yin and yang, just like we are in business and in life!

Monique (Yin – Passive, Female energy, Moon)

I like to take my time to absorb. Experiences, feelings, people. My favourite kind of mornings are slow ones where I take my time to sip tea, stretch out on my mat and prepare for my day with meditation. My yoga practice definitely reflects my personality where I prefer deep, slow yin expressions. Restorative yoga is where I find I can recharge and connect to my creative, authentic self.

MountainMoniqueFavourite Asanas:
1. Water Fall orLegs Up the Wall Pose
2. Pigeon Pose

3. Savasana

Rachelle (Yang – Active, Male Energy, Sun)

I have a fiery, go-getter personality with a very active mind, full of ideas and opportunities that I actively spend my time chasing. Connecting each breath to movement on my mat acts as a moving meditation that focuses my monkey mind. I like to bring challenging arm balances and flowing mandala sequences to my classes and into my personal practice. By achieving silence through balance and strength on the mat, I am able to take that quiet, calm state off the mat and into my busy life.

Favourite Asanas:
1. Crow/Side Crow
2. Half Moon

3. Full Wheel

There you have it, in yoga (and in life) we are the yang to one another’s yin. Share in the comments below what your yoga pose personality is, we all have one!
